The Fair Trade Development Center (FTDC) is an initiative launched by the Institute For Community Partnership (ICP) - Bethlehem University to invest its resources for the benefit of Palestinian small businesses and producers by providing them with knowledge and training and assist them in joining the International Fair Trade Movement.
Objectives of the FTDC
The objectives of the FTDC include the following:
- To introduce fair trade principles and initiatives to Palestinian small producers and businesses.
- To support cooperatives and producer groups to meet the requirement of the International Fair Trade Association (IFAT) certification.
- To enable the Palestinian fair trade movement to benefit from the growing global fair trade market, and network with the regional and international fair organizations.
- To provide training and capacity building in several needed areas including management, strategic planning, and marketing.
Support to Olive Oil Producers in the West Bank - Development of a Certified Fair Trade Olive Oil Sector
The FTDC has been assigned by Oxfam GB to implement their project Support to Olive Oil Producers in the West Band - Development of a Certified Fair trade Olive Oil Sector. Through this project, the FTDC will introduce 17 Palestinian olive oil cooperatives from all over the West Bank to ‘Fair Trade' and will provide the necessary support to qualify them for fair trade certification.
